A long tradition at Cambridge of international and national student participation in sports and other recreation exists here. Rowing in particular is a very  popular sport and competitions between colleges exist (these are called bumps races), Also held here are boat race competitions against the students of Oxford. Other sport competitions being held in the city of Cambridge against Oxford are rugby, cricket, chess and tiddlywinks.

A group which focuses on politics and debating is called ´The Cambridge Union´. There are also many drama societies, under which one that is called the ´Amateur Dramatic Club´ (ADC) and a comedy club called ´Footlights´. Famous student newspapers include the long-established Varsity and its younger counterpart, The Cambridge Student. There is also broadcast journalism taking place which is represented by the student-run radio station: CUR1350.
